Sharyl Attkisson at CBS NEWS Investigates says that “New documents obtained by CBS News show Attorney General Eric Holder was sent briefings on the controversial Fast and Furious operation as far back as July 2010. That directly contradicts his statement to Congress.”

A September 2nd, 2011 report in the L.A. Times by Richard Serrano tells of “a senior administration official” saying that emails the L.A. Times had obtained “did not prove that anyone in the White House was aware of the covert ‘investigative tactics’ of the operation.”
“The emails validate what has been said previously, which is no one at the White House knew about the investigative tactics being used in the operation, let alone any decision to let guns walk,” said the official, who was not authorized to speak about it publicly. “To the extent that some [national security staff members] were briefed on the top lines of ongoing federal efforts, so were members of Congress.”
The official cited by the L.A. Times stated emphatically that the emails in question were not forwarded beyond a certain level on the chain of command:
“He identified the three White House officials who were briefed as Kevin M. O’Reilly, director of North American Affairs for the White House national security staff; Dan Restrepo, the president’s senior Latin American advisor; and Greg Gatjanis, a White House national security official…’The emails were not forwarded beyond them, and we are not aware of any [additional] briefings related to that email chain,’ the official said.” Â See L.A. The breaking news report from CBS now shows otherwise, as the videos demonstrate.
To reiterate, Attkisson states:
“The Justice Department told CBS News that the officials in those emails were talking about a different case started before Eric Holder became Attorney General. And tonight they tell CBS News, Holder misunderstood that question from the committee – he did know about Fast and Furious – just not the details.”
