The U. S. Post Office wants to stop Saturday mail delivery (but not package delivery, just mails) in order to save millions of budget dollars. Naturally, the unions are wholly against a government office saving money and have issued a protest letter to the media.
In a letter by Pennsylvania AFL-CIO President Rick Bloomingdale, the decision is idiotically panned as a union-busting move.
“Our outrage today is focused on the USPS. Postal service executives cannot save the Postal Service by tearing it apart. The slash and burn cuts to mail delivery and other postal services unravels the fabric of the nation’s mail system and puts it on a path to privatization. And the job losses in Pennsylvania and elsewhere are wrongheaded anytime, but especially during an anemic economic recovery.”
Unions busting? Try money savings. That is all it is meant to do. It has zip to do with the greedy, grasping, tax dollar wasting unions.
Another unionista spoke up. According to the Secretary-Treasurer of the AFL-CIO of Penn., it is all about hurting union members.
“The elimination of Saturday mail delivery adds to the impact of USPS actions leading to the closing of 13,000 post offices, or severely cutting hours of operation, shuttering hundreds of mail processing centers and lowering standards for mail delivery to our county’s homes and business. The economic impact is already beginning to register with cities and towns throughout the country.”
Again, this is about saving the government money. If it hurts greedy union members, so much the better… but that is in no way a goal.
The Post Office is losing some $57 million tax dollars a day. WE, the people, are making up that difference. This move is about saving money. Union thugs be damned.
Obama keeps talking about “shared sacrifice.” It’s about time his people listened to him.
