Unions Now Want Federal Subsidies To Pay Their Obamacare Taxes!
-By Warner Todd Huston
Unions were some of the biggest pushers of Obamacare. Nearly every major union in the country called Obama’s healthcare the right cure for all America’s ills. And now? Well, now the unions want free government money given to them so they can pay the exorbitant taxes Obamacare will force on us all.
Even as unions advocated forcing Obamacare on all of us because it would be “the right thing to do,” even as the unions think we all should “sacrifice” to implement Obamacare… now they want to be given special dispensation to get out of its consequences by demanding fee government money to help them pay for the huge rise in insurance costs that Obamacare will force on everyone.
What the unions want is taxpayer money to help them pay their insurance costs while non-union workers would have to foot their entire bill as well as the union’s bills.
As the Wall Street Journal reports:
Top officers at the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, the AFL-CIO and other large labor groups plan to keep pressing the Obama administration to expand the federal subsidies to these jointly run plans, warning that unionized employers may otherwise drop coverage. A handful of unions say they already have examined whether it makes sense to shift workers off their current plans and onto private coverage subsidized by the government. But dropping insurance altogether would undermine a central point of joining a union, labor leaders say.
The Heritage Foundation properly notes that we should all be getting a reprieve from Obamacare.
Rather than unions or other politically influential groups receiving special treatment, all Americans should get a reprieve from Obamacare and its erroneous consequences. Government subsidies are made of taxpayer dollars, so more subsidies will inevitably result in more taxes, which is not the solution. The only way to pardon everyone from Obamacare’s damaging effects is to repeal it. Luckily, there is still time.
Heritage has a great info graphic on the estimated loss of employer coverage after full implementation of Obamacare, too.
