In the aftermath of the tragic shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School the following exchange took place. NRA leader Wayne LaPierre put forth the idea of having armed guards in our schools, saying that, “It’s the one thing we can do immediately that can make our children more safe.”
However NBC’s David Gregory’s response to LaPierre’s statement, “You proposed armed guards in school. We’ll talk about that in some detail in a moment. You confronted the news media. You blamed Hollywood and the gaming industry. But never once did you concede that guns could actually be part of the problem. Is that a meaningful contribution, Mr. LaPierre, or a dodge?,” asked Gregory.
What’s missing in Gregory’s attack is that his children attend school where they are protected by armed guards. Sidwell Friends School (SFS) is a PK-12, co-educational Quaker day school with a reported security department of 11 individuals, many armed. It is also worth noting that in addition to Gregory’s children, President Obama’s children attend the same school. This adds to the school’s security department, the additional security detail of the President’s Secret Service personnel, who are guarding the president’s children.
High security for the President’s and Gregory’s children. While we’d certainly not fault protecting the president and his family it does raise an overall question. Liberal minions desire all the safety and security they denigrate, for the rest of us.
