Starbucks has long been friendly to those who openly carry firearms. The coffee giant has also been unfriendly to those who support natural marriage. The company just took their unfriendliness to a whole new level, however, in openly telling us they don’t want our business.
And as someone who spends money in Starbucks several times a month, news of this radical position against supporters of natural marriage will have me staying away from the business. Apparently… that’s what they want. At least, according to the CEO of Starbucks.
According to a report by Forbes, Schultz seemed a bit intolerant of any Starbucks shareholders who opposed gay marriage for moral or religious reasons. During the meeting, shareholder Tom Strobhar (who founded the Corporate Morality Action Center) pointed out that after the company voiced its support for a referendum backing gay marriage in Washington state, a boycottby traditional marriage supporters caused a drop in sales revenue. Schultz told him “You can sell your shares in Starbucks and buy shares in another company” if he did not agree with the company’s pro-gay marriage stand.
In other words… Starbucks is saying that if you don’t like the political activism their company chooses to engage in, go ahead and take your business somewhere else.
Fine. I do believe I will. And so should you.
Great coffee. Horrible display of intolerance of differing views.
