groupHow would you feel about the idea of Ambassador Stevens and his team being secured by men who believe Israel must be destroyed so a Palestine populated with Muslims could exist without confrontation from Jews? According to the State Department’s Accountability Review Board report on the Benghazi attacks, the Special Missions Compound (often incorrectly referred to as a consulate) was guarded by the “Libyan February 17 Martyrs’ Brigade

There is very little known about the “Libyan February 17 Martyrs’ Brigade,” and not much can be found online. The State Department insists that the group is not a terrorist organization, despite the fact that the Wikipedia page entry for the group says, “The February 17th Martyrs Brigade also flies the al-Qaeda flag on their Facebook page and have been al-Qaeda sympathizers for a very long time.”

Furthermore, one would imagine that such a group would have records of threats made against Western holdings and records of terrorist attacks even if that group had given up their formerly violent ways.

The problem is that no such records exist. The Wikipedia page itself was only created just weeks before the ARB report was released.

The Accountability Review Board was established on October 4th, 2012. The Wikipedia page was created on November 11th, 2012. The ARB Report was released on December 19th, 2012.

So, if the Martyrs’ Brigade organization from the ARB report exists and it really did find its origins in the Middle East, the only logical conclusion is that the ARB’s February 17 Martyrs’ Brigade that was guarding the American CIA facility in Benghazi, Libya on September 11, 2012, was actually the terror group, Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigade, which does have a sizeable entry in the National Counterterrorism Center’s database and a long list of actual terrorist attacks.

Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigade also has a lengthy history of ties to Libya. Back in 2003, The San Francisco Chronicle explained that PLO President, Yassar Arafat, raised 2.5 million dollars from the Libyan dictator, Moammar Khadafy, in order to bankroll continued attacks into Israel. The Chronicle continued, saying: “Libyan money has been paid into bank accounts controlled by Arafat in Beirut and Cairo to underwrite the terror activities of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, the paramilitary wing of Arafat’s Fatah movement.”

The name Al-Aqsa means “The Noble Sanctuary” in Arabic. Al-Aqsa is the name of the mosque that stands next to the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem. This mosque, along with the Dome of the Rock, is considered “holy and inviolable,” by the most devout followers of Islam.

The National Counterterrorism Center  is an excellent resource for basic information on the group. In September of 2000, a committed and violent faction of Palestinians formed a “martyrs’ brigade” of their fellow Muslims who were willing to sacrifice themselves to defend the Muslim “sanctity” of the territory surrounding the mosque itself, Jerusalem as a city, and the entire nation of Israel. They were and remain committed to establishing a Palestinian state and the destruction of the Jewish people and the Israeli nation-state.

The group is secular in the sense that their primary loyalty was to former PLO President, Arafat, until his death in 2004. Today, they still remain loyal to the former president’s political-terror apparatus – Fatah. They do not want to establish a Shari ‘a-compliant state in the sense of having an Islamic “Republic” like Iran.

They do, however, want a Palestinian state populated by Muslims. In essence and practice, that means that their goal is to terrorize Israel’s Jewish people into annihilation and/or eventual capitulation (whichever they could achieve first).

Their tactics have included small arms attacks on Israeli hard and soft targets, car bombings, suicide bombings, and most famously – shelling Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip with rockets. The group has conducted operations with HAMAS and the group has killed American citizens.

The most dangerous fact about the group is that the group is not centrally commanded. It is composed of an unknown number of splinter cells and various factions. The only principles that unite the group is their dedication to violently harassing the Jewish people and their allies as well as using terrorist means to attempt to gain a secular statehood for Palestine similar to an Assad-type of Muslim governance in Syria.

Why would a paramilitary group with ties to Hamas and interests in getting arms to Hezbollah be placed as security for a CIA facility in Benghazi?
