Sounds like a ‘bad hombre’ to me…
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has filed a detention request for an illegal immigrant from Honduras accused of beheading his own mother during an attack so gruesome that it has made international headlines.
According to reports, the horrific murder scene was discovered by authorities responding to a 911 call in the quiet North Carolina community of Pilot which rests approximately 190 east of Charlotte. As authorities explain, upon arrival at location of the 911 call, officers were greeted outside of the residence by suspect Oliver Funes-Machado who was carrying the severed head of victim Yesenia Funes Beatriz Machada in one hand and a large butcher knife in the other.
“When they arrived, he was with the decapitation in his hand and it was a gruesome scene,” Franklin County Sheriff Kent Winstead stated to WRAL.
As the Charlotte Observer has reported, neighbor Randy Mullins recalled witnessing a look of ‘terror‘ on the face of a deputy responding to the gruesome scene which took place at the Machada family home with the suspect’s two younger sisters present. The young girls reported as ‘about ages 2 or 3’ were unharmed.
Funes-Machado was arrested at the scene and is being held without bond at the Central Prison in Raleigh on the charge of murder in the first-degree. A motive for the horrific attack is currently unknown.
Speaking in regards to the detainer request, ICE spokesman Bryan Cox explained that the detainer does not ‘preclude any criminal prosecution,’ however, it will apply ‘at whatever point if/when he gets out of prison down the road.’
Tuesday, North Carolina prosecutors handling the case stated that they will be seeking a mental evaluation of Funes-Machado. A defense attorney representing Funes-Machado further stated to media that his client is clearly a ‘profoundly disturbed young man,’ one with ‘substantial mental health issues.’
