A New Jersey man accused of planting an “improvised explosive device” at the Port Authority Bus Terminal eatery late Wedsnesday has been arrested police according to prosecutors familiar with the investigation.
In a statement Thursday, it was explained that suspect Arsenio Manson, a 39-year-old had planted the device hidden in a suitcase at the Deli Plus restaurant in the terminal’s south wing.
According to prosecutors, the suitcase which contained the IED along with a knife, bolt cutters and screwdrivers was located by a PAPD officers around 5:15 p.m and turned over to the NYPD’s bomb squad who then transported it to Rodman’s Neck in the Bronx.
A PAPD K-9 unit inspected the suitcase and brought it to a police substation within the bus terminal, sources said.
When officers opened the bag, they saw what appeared to be an improvised explosive device…
They found parts including “a fuse assembly, a cardboard tube and black gunpowder,” an NYPD spokesman said.
Cops there detonated it by applying heat to the suitcase, prosecutors said in court Thursday.
But the NYPD disputed that there was any detonation.
“We brought it to Rodman’s Neck and they took some powder out of it,” a police spokesman said. “They took the powder to a lab for further analysis.”
Mason was arrested by Port Authority cops when he returned to the terminal and asked about the suitcase around 8 p.m.
Mason was charged with reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon, possession of burglary tools and criminal possession of a controlled substance, PAPD officials said.
I am sure it was only a homemade clock…
