It’s no secret Hollywood is struggling with originality these days. The Box Office is jam packed with franchise flicks and this year’s line up of big budget films won’t bring about much change to the trend.
That said, there are a few films coming that will raise a few eyebrows. Will they be enough to get moviegoers to theaters? Only time will tell.
Here are ten big budget films hitting the big screen this summer.
1 – May 5th: Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2
We’re normally “meh” with sequels, but Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 1 was a fantastic and quite original movie, so we have high hopes for this one. Expect massive numbers on opening weekend.
2 – May 12: King Arthur – Legend of the Sword
Sword in the Stone was a cartoon anyone over the age of 30 has probably seen on multiple occasions. The original story was a great tale to tell, and King Arthur looks to revive it with a major big budget remake of the story.
We’re not gonna lie… it looks incredible, but trailers often miss the mark. And as is often the case, remakes like this are usually a flop. But we have high hopes!
3 – May 19: Alien – Covenant
We’re not huge fans of the Alien films. Just not our style. But if it’s your thing this one probably holds a lot of promise.
4 – May 26: Pirates of the Caribbean – Dead Men Tell No Tales
Pirates of the Caribbean has been one of the most successful movie franchises in history. Unlike many others, the Pirates movies never lose their ability to entertain in a big way. We’re guessing this one will do the same and expect it to have a huge opening.
5 – June 2: Wonder Woman
Not sure how this one will go over. Most commentary around this film leads us to believe it’s not going to be a big hit. There are MANY female superheroes with massive followings, but… wonder woman?
What say you?
6 – June 23: Transformers – The Last Knight
It’s Transformers and it’s directed by Michael Bay. It will be amazing. Nuff said.
7 – June 28: Baby Driver
This looks to be one of the most original films to be released this summer and we have to admit… it looks pretty alluring. Looks like a marriage of Fast and Furious and Driver, a combination that should be pretty interesting come release day.
8 – July 5: Spider-Man: Homecoming
Not really much to say here. Meh.
9 – July 21: Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets
From the makers of Fifth Element comes this pure awesomeness.
10 – July 21: Dunkirk
Our top film of the summer comes last. This will be a brilliant watch.
